What to expect, if I visit SPIEL?
SPIEL ’20
SPIEL ’20 - the world’s biggest consumer fair for gaming - offers its visitors a one-of-a-kind opportunity to see, sample and test the complete international games program. In 2019 more than 1,200 exhibitors from 53 nations made this show so unique. Each year gamers from all over the world join the largest meeting of the gaming scene. Publishers, authors, manufacturers, and devoted players gather here to share their experiences, check out the latest developments and introduce new products to the wider public.
On more than 86,000 square meters of exhibition space, all kinds of games are on display, ranging from family, adult, children and parlour games to strategy, mail, adventure, fantasy and science fiction games to video and computer games. Naturally, game classics such as Chess, Go, Backgammon and Bridge won’t be missing.
SPIEL provides an extensive range of fringe events: All exhibitors invite you to join in the action at their tables - just try the unknown, enter one of the numerous competitions, or watch exciting demonstrations!
Families will find a world of adventure for their kids. A huge variety of high-quality toys just waits to be explored - and a special hall is being turned into a playground with climbing areas, juggling, an XXL tabletop kicker, a bouncy castle, and much more.
SPIEL in Essen means: Four days of fun, meeting friends, and a chance to try out thousands of games and novelties just in time for the holiday season. Convince yourself of the quality of the international games market and feel free to buy your favourite ones!
Accessible SPIEL
Wheelchairs can be rented for a deposit of €50 and presentation of an ID card. Please reserve by telephone: +49 (0)201 724-4417.
The Underground line 11 travels directly from Essen Central Station to the entrances Messe East, Messe South (in front of hall 1) and Messe West (in front of hall 3).
The recommended entrance is the West entrance. 160 meters from this stop’s railway track, there is a ramp leading to the entrance. From there it is about 270 m to the South entrance and about 700 m to the East entrance. There is an elevator at the East entrance of the Underground station.
Toilet facilities for the disabled are near the foyers. These are equipped with the EURO WC closure on the exhibition grounds. If you do not have this key, the toilet maintenance staff can unlock the WC for you on-site. In addition, at every exhibition information station you will receive a corresponding key upon presentation of your ID.

Cash Dispenser/ATM
At the fairground of Messe Essen are four fixed cash dispensers. They are located at the entrance areas West (in front of hall 3) and South (in front of hall 1), as well as in Hall 4A and at the East area. These cash dispensers only allow payouts.
Apart from that there are also various bank branches in the immediate vicinity of the Messe Essen, as follows:

Lugagge and lockers
In the foyers in front of hall 1 and hall 3 you can find lockers where you can place your lugagge and bags. For more information please contact Messe Essen: +49 (0)201 7244-0. The new cloakroom in hall 8 also takes large bags, which can be refilled as often as you like during the day.
The price per bag is EUR 3,- and the first time you refill your bag, you have to pay EUR 2,- extra. From then on you can return and deposit as many games as you like at any time without any additional cost.

Opening Times and Tickets
Thursday to Saturday, October 22nd to 24th, the convention is open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., on Sunday, October 25th, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Shipping and packaging service at SPIEL!
At the booth of the company Mailboxes Etc., hall 4, booth 4L107, visitors of SPIEL ’19 had the option to ship their purchased games directly from the fairground to their homes. If desired, the staff of Mail Boxes etc. even professionally wrapped the purchased games. See here for prices.
